Cucina e vino

Il mare offre prodotti freschi per la cucina di pesce. Tra i piatti locali più noti il  “Brodetto di Pesce alla Vastese”.

La limitrofa montagna offre la “Ventricina” (salame rosso piccante) e prodotti tipici caseari.

Vini tipici del Vastese sono il Montepulciano (rosso), Cerasuolo (rosato) e i bianchi Pecorino e Cococciola.

The sea offers fresh products for seafood cuisine. Among the most famous local dishes is the “Brodetto di Pesce alla Vastese”.

The near mountain offers the “Ventricina” (spicy red salami) and dairy products. Local wines are Montepulciano (red), Cerasuolo (light red), Pecorino and Cococciola (white).

Visita all’orto della Fonte Nuova

Vasto era la città degli orti, soleggiati terreni che dalla città vecchia scendono al mare. Per chi desidera c’è la possibilità di fare passeggiate all’orto di nonna Clò alla Fonte Nuova (a 5 minuti a piedi) per scoprire la genuinità dei prodotti locali e le antiche tecniche di coltivazione,   spendendo  qualche ora  tra i profumi  degli aranci  e degli ulivi e la  vista dell’immenso golfo.

Un palcoscenico verde, accogliente e rilassante, che invita alla serenità, alla meditazione, alla lettura all’ombra di un albero, tra il fluire della copiosa acqua delle sorgenti che riempie la “peschiera grossa”: la grande vasca una volta usata per il lavaggio delle verdure e l’accumulo di acqua per l’irrigazione.

Visiting the vegetable garden at the Fonte Nuova

Vasto was the city of vegetable gardens, laying down from the Old town to the sea. For those who want, there is the possibility of taking grandma Clò’s vegetable garden walks at Fonte Nuova (5 minutes away) to discover the authenticity of local products and ancient cultivation techniques, spending a few hours among the aromas of orange and olive trees and the view of the immense gulf.

A green, welcoming and relaxing stage, which invites serenity, meditation, reading in the shade of a tree, between the flow of copious water from the springs that fills the “big fish pond”. The large tank once used for washing vegetables and the accumulation of water for irrigation.
